Marine Fishing License

Summary

As of February 2025, nonresidents age 15 and older must obtain a marine recreational fishing license to fish in Hawai‘i’s saltwater areas. This license covers all legal recreational fishing methods, including charter participation. Some areas and gear types have additional restrictions or require separate permits. Sale of aquatic life under this license is prohibited.

Other Non-Commercial Licenses

Authorizes the possession and use of lay nets in Hawaiʻi.

Required for vessels catching Deep 7 Bottomfish species.

Needed to catch sport fish in Hawaiʻi’s lakes, streams, and other freshwater areas.

Required to access and fish within the Wahiawā Public Fishing Area.
